Additional Comments = The steady rains that we've gotten every three to four days for the last two weeks will make the morel season in the Sierra Nevadas be a great year.  We had to postpone our outing for today due to rain.  Warm temperatures for the next couple of days should send the morels popping like popcorn.  I can hardly wait.

May 6th, 2007: Hi Chris, Our season has begun here. I found my first one last Saturday. Very small grey about an inch tall. I left it to grow up. Checked it a few days later and it was about 2.5 inches tall. Went back today to harvest it and found the remains of the stem that someone had cut. Risks with shrooming sometimes have sad endings. Anyway, I find it interesting to monitor their rate of growth. I also found this nice little basket full. They are mostly 2-3 inches tall. Found them under dead elms. Hope all is well in Georgia or wherever you are. Happy Shrooming! Amy Tisdale

Three Oaks, Dont know whats going on here found about fifty blacks where ive never found any before. m spots this year have produced nothing. Found northside of hill. Found two in march!! never have I found that early. Growing Conditions = Lot of oaks and a few maples. Above creek bottom on northside of hill. This year, with the early warm up, then back to the deep freeze for 2-3 weeks, and finally dry conditions for many has turned out a very poor Morel year for most. The only good areas were very early on in March, in Oklahoma, and Southern Kansas. Also out West seems to be doing fairly well. But all of the Mid-West has been poorly affected. -Chris M

I am heading out now to do a filming with the Travel Channel, first location- Wisconsin, and then on to a small foray in S. Michigan and a second filming. I will also be in the chat room this Monday night after 8:00 PM Central Time, in the member areas. Happy Shrooming! - Chris Matherly

May 22nd, 2007: My daughter Summer just sent these...Fact Sheet:  It's a white morel.  Found at camp while leading a "wildflower hike" in Livingston Co., MI.
The weather was "ripe" for morel hunting (tho, this one is my first harvested ever).  Our mid-Michigan temps had been "warming" all week with clear/cold (low-40's) overnight-- keeping most low areas and woodlands (at least)  dewy and damp over this rather cool and very DRY April/May period we had just come through.
The forecast for the morning of the "find" was for temps to climb into the upper 70's with localized, intermitant rainshowers.  It had rained that morning before my arrival for work.  And, although this giant morel was the first (and ONLY) one I would see that day at camp,... I passed many other large groups of various other types of fungus
throughout the day-- in woodlot, as well as along the roadsides of the more open, sunny meadows that bordered the equestrian portion of the campgrounds.
After savoring this lovely mor[s]el, I shall look fwd to the month of May forevermore! ~M. Nash {:D<&<[
